                                                                      		         No 70  DUCAL PALACE  TRACERIES
                                                                      	Having now finished the exam. of the four traceried windows
                                                                      of the D. Palace, I shall fill up in order what is to be
                                                                      noted of them.
                                                                      	The First - let be that on the side of the palace towards prisons,
                                                                      and furthest from the sea.  This window now belongs to
                                                                      the Camera di Studio.
                                                                      	1	The tracery.  Now Place 41  fig 1 showing intersections of
                                                                      great roll - most crious.   Do what I would, I could not
		        Put into chapter on Masonry.                                from its ledge, see the filling of the                           space
	and compare the most curious treatment of joint in fig 1             but I think it is filled up by the moulding - solid stone.
plate 42 large.                                                       The parts coloured red are cut clear:  and I was excessive-
                                                                      	2	ly puzzled by the position of the joint - the cusp is not
                                                                      solid as in the other windows and the point certainly
                                                                      strikes it as at fig 2;  and there is no joint at the
                                                                      cusp point, not could I see any joint is cusp, except a
                                                                      crack at a fig 2 - it is a great puzzle.
                                                                      The rose, which fills the    overlaps the tracery as
                                                                      shown by dotted line in sect fig 3.
                                                                      The jamb section - archivolt sec.  and tracery are the
                                                                      same as in the other side window, or second - only its
                                                                      two half shafts have the small truncated processes which
                                                                      	3	end the cavattos of their spirals rounded instead of cut
                                                                      short off -                instead of
                                                                      but in the central shaft it is cut off as in the others,
