San Stefano. Continued from p 166 1 - seen on a level with it and on li
like a ship’s bows. (I see I am wrong in[j] saying the trian-
gle is horizontal; it is evidently raised a little
above the bell as it sweeps down) and then the bell itself
is cut into a deeper concave, giving relief to all the
leaves uoon it; Blocks being left originally for the curl
ed lobes which spoil it, and mark the transition
period. The section through the side is given most care-
fully, every line measured r[a]eal size; on No 126 wherein
note especially the receding slope of the base of the
dog tooth, advancing slope of the edge of the bell;
precisely what I have called transitional Ap; and finally
the dotted line marking the original controu of the bells
while the inner line is the actual concave cut to leave the
leafage projecting.
