On the top of the serpentine block of which the base isseen in No 127 at c: is laid a square cornice a c p 2 l St M book of white. a b its upper bevel about 2 in wide in the breadth of one side at a, 3 " 5 and at b (as before measured 3 " 9 From a to a2 the base of an upper shaft, about 2 in The height a c vertically 2½ as seen again in fig 1 st M p 3 l St M. 3l That of the serpentine block c d p 3 l about 1 " 3 Then 6 in for cornice, and so the noble & subtle section of the capital a c fig 2 p 3 {l St M} The inner line is that of the bell itself, through the side whereon it is traceable The outer is the basket work, and the mass into which the lily is cut. a b is 2 " 0½ with about an inch concavity. b c 3½ nearly horizontal. The capital of shaft B. p 180 is about an inch less high in the bell, & loses another inch on the closer joint. Its serpentine block is 1 " 2 deep and one side of it 3 " 6 and of its cornice (as at b p 2 l) 3 " 7 Now, on the top of the plinth b c (Carta shaft a A) the bases of St M the five smaller shafts are arranged as at p 2 {St M} The square p. 2 basic plinths being about 1 " 0 the side; and 1 inch truncation.
