The pure semicircles of the rolls [diagram] continued united at their bases up to the recess, which is about 2 inches deep, and thence upwards the section of archivolt is of course as opposite (fig 1). the recess a b being quite rough hewn. Observing the abacus octagonal, its side given and the distance s s2 I can construct all.
