                                                                      		cavetto better given at fig 2.  The cavetto being deeper than
                                                                      		a [diagram] the filling of it projects as an oval:  overlapping also
[diagram]                                                             		its edge:  almost coming in  contact with roll:  It is cut off
[diagram]                                                             	2	short & flat and is very ungraceful, though somewhat grand -
                                                                      		Each of the five rolls, in the 6 ft of height, comes twice
                                                                      		round to the side on which it starts:  and then  touches the
                                                                      		top or bottom - on the side opposite: going twice & a half
                                                                      		round shaft - thus dividing it also in five.
                                                                      		Fig 1 is the base of this shaft;  very flat in cavetto, having
                                                                      		in one shaft - four delicate leaves ribbed - of the outer
                                                                      		arcade pattern & curled over; in the other two lions heads & two leaves
                                                                      		arranged most singularly as opp:  Entire height from d to
                                                                      	1	a2 about 9 in:  The lower member of this base is most
                                                                      		singular, raised out of the plinth of the window:  and
                                                                      		actually this plinth is in two pieces under the base
                                                                      		as opp.  It would be difficult to draw in perspective.
                                                                      		The management of the lateral capital, with its semicircular
                                                                      		twisted  shaft, is shown in No 64 fig 2.  There ought to be two
                                                                      		lions heads, with a leaf between over the shaft, but these are
                                                                      	3	broken away on this side, & injured on the other:  All are
                                                                      		magnificent:  altogether different in style from the central capitals
                                                                      		- and as grand as  could be .  The noblest instance I have yet seen of
                                                                      		a banded capital:  for so it is in great part;  It projects boldly however
