                                                                      		like reality:  and the surface so smooth that it cannot be believed
                                                                      		it was ever chiselled: - smooth almost to lustre:  except one leaf
                                                                      		thrown to the front or outer angle on purpose: which is curved with
                                                                      		its entire reticulation: cross bars and all: in raised ribs, from its
                                                                      		undulating surface:  I never saw anything so far carried
                                                                      Surface		in imitative sculpture:  The love of surface tracery has much
                                                                      tracery		to do with it - for exactly the same thing is done with the
                                                                      		veins of the figure, which are almost painfully distinct
                                                                      		The type of form about the chest, unless intended for the
                                                                      		contracted form of an old man, is very weak & poor:  miserable
                                                                      		if compared with Greek types:
                                                                      		The moulding of the lower arches is the weak point
                                                                      		of the architecture, as the anatomy is of the scu,pture:
                                                                      		It is certainly mean and harsh; only saved by its grand
                                                                      		tore - the row of diamonds is far too small - and wholly
                                                                      		ineffective - acid and grating instead of energetic:  The
                                                                      	A	cornice on last page l is fair, I find the height of
                                                                      		its upper level a from the ground is 20 ft 3 in. I found
                                                                      		it 20 ft 4 in with a loose line.
                                                                      Round	No 13:	Church of St John & Paul:  Note further, that the interior
